You Can Do It! Education
In addition to the NSW Education Standards Authority (formerly BOSTES) approved six Key Learning Areas, Kincumber Public School offers a comprehensive social and emotional learning curriculum - You Can Do It!
You Can Do It! Education (YCDI) supports our learning community (students, parents, teachers) in a collective effort to optimise the social, emotional, and academic outcomes of all young people.
YCDI focuses on developing the social and emotional capabilities that all young people need to acquire in order to be successful. At KPS, we believe that students should experience success not only in their learning, but in positive relationships, developing a sense of wellbeing, and being able to make a positive contribution to others and the community (good citizenship).
The 5 Keys of YCDI! Education
Our core purpose is the development of young people's social and emotional capabilities, including:
- Confidence (academic, social)
- Persistence
- Organisation
- Getting Along, and
- Resilience.
Central to the development of these 5 Key Foundations is instilling in young people 12 Habits of the Mind, including:
- Accepting Myself
- Taking Risks
- Being Independent
- I Can Do It
- Giving Effort
- Working Tough
- Setting Goals
- Planning My Time
- Being Tolerant of Others
- Thinking First
- Playing by the Rules, and
- Social Responsibility.
This last point includes the values of Caring, Doing Your Best, Freedom, Honesty, Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Understanding, Tolerance, and Inclusion.
You can view the You Can Do It! student booklet (PDF 2MB), which explains the Five Keys and outlines the Bronze, Silver, Gold and Gold Key components of the "You Can Do It" program at KPS.
