Public Speaking

KPS Public Speaking Competition 2016

At Kincumber Public School we place great value in developing capacity in our students in the area of public speaking. The 2016 KPS Public Speaking Competition will be held in all classes across the school this term and will provide the opportunity for students to develop and demonstrate confidence, communication and speech-writing skills. All students from Kindergarten to Year 6 will be expected to participate. They will need to prepare a short speech on an open ended topic to be presented in front of their class during Week 3 and 4.


Timeline 2016

The competition will proceed as follows:

  • Term 3 , Week 2-  Competition details sent home and discussed in class. Students are to prepare their speeches at school. 
  • Term 3, Week 3 and 4 – Class presentations. Teachers select 3 students to proceed to next level.
  • Term 3, Week 5 – Three finalists from each class will present again to other classes in their Stage. Six students will be selected for Grand Final.
  • Term 3, Week 6 – Grand Final. Final six students from each Stage will present their speech to assembly. They will be judged by a panel of judges, (comprising of staff and students) from Kincumber High School. A winner and a runner up will be chosen.
  • Term 3, Week 7 – Winner and Runner Up will represent Kincumber Public School in the Central Coast Primary Schools Public Speaking Competition at Avoca Beach Public School on September 1st.

Times for speeches 

  • Students from Kindergarten and Stage 1 should aim to speak for 1-2 minutes
  • Students from Stage 2 should aim to speak for 2-3 minutes
  • Students from Stage 3 should aim to speak for 3 minutes
