Welcome to our Support Unit
Our support unit has three Multi-Categorical (MC) classes that cater for students with a range of disabilities, including moderate to severe intellectual disability or Autism.
Enrolment into one of these classes is through the access request and placement panel process. Students who have a confirmed disability may be eligible for placement and famililes apply for enrolment in a support class through their local public school. A panel considers all applications from all local schools and allocates places according to need and availability. All places in support classes are reviewed annually to ensure that students' needs are being met in the most appropriate setting.
As well as having Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and being supported in a class of fewer than ten students with a teacher and full-time School Learning Suport Officer (SLSO), students and staff in the support classes are included in mainstream class, playground, assembly, sport and excursion experiences too.
Our SLSO's are highly skilled and spend time in both support classes and mainstream classes and work on specialist programs across the school so that they are well-known to all children.
