Bring Your Own Device

Kincumber Public School Bring Your Own Device Information for 2022

Dear Parents/Carers,

In 2017 Kincumber Public School introduced a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) initiative for all Stage 3 classes and built on its success to include Stage 2. Over the past couple of years we have included stage 1 students in this initiative.

There is a continued move towards the delivery of NAPLAN through an online platform and 2018 saw the first schools officially complete the tests in this manner and as of 2022, NAPLAN has moved completely to an online platform. These tests are tailored or adaptive in design, where the test automatically adapts to a student's performance and asks questions that match a student's achievement level, allowing them to demonstrate their knowledge. This provides teachers and schools with more targeted and detailed information on students’ performance on the tests. Tailored testing also provides an opportunity to broaden the scope of the assessments.

Over the past two years we have seen an increase in the use of technology both within the classroom and at home via platforms such as the Google Classroom, which has been an invaluable tool throughout ‘learning from home’ due to the ongoing needs due to COVID.

As a public school, we strive to foster independence in our students and provide opportunities for differentiated and autonomous learning. In order to ensure our students are given every advantage and to support the increasing curricular demands for technology, we are encouraging parents to support the BYOD initiative.

To assist parents/carers, we have provided a device specification and ask that all devices brought to school meet these standards.

Please read the school’s BYOD policy located on the school’s website. A requirement is for all students and parents/carers to sign ‘A Student Agreement’ prior to students bringing their BYOD to school.

The 2022 Student Agreement needs to be returned before students are permitted to bring their devices to the classroom.
