1J Class Information 2018

K-2 Assembly is 11:30am Fridays on even weeks of the term in the hall. When 1J is running the assembly later in the year, you will be invited via email/special handmade cards to attend.

1J's Library day is Monday afternoons with Mrs. Judd. A library bag is supplied with your students book pack to enable your child to borrow books on a weekly basis.

This year we have implemented a whole school Music Program whereby all students (K-6) will have one Music lesson in class every week.  Having the opportunity to learn and perform music promotes self-expression, gives children a sense of accomplishment, develops listening skills and connects the same neural pathways in the brain that are used for maths and language. Mrs Bullock will be taking this class after library on Monday afternoons.

Class sport is on Thursday and children need to wear appropriate footwear. This term the children will participate in basic gross motor skills and fitness games.

Please bring in an old large adult size t-shirt to be used as an art shirt for painting (this is optional). Pull on style is preferred over a button up shirt, as it has to be quick and easy to put on and off and cover the majority of your child's uniform.

Home reading should have commenced, with the children reading the books they are also reading in class, this way they can revise and consolidate at home. Books must be returned the following day.

Mathletics will start week 6. The Mathletics tasks set will be what we are focusing on in class with the aim of consolidation. My aim is not to stress you as parents, so see me if you have any concerns.

Fruit Break

Please pack fresh fruit or veg daily for our mid morning break.

We will provide the children with all their stationery here at school. An invoice has been sent out for a $70 book pack for your child to cover all other supplies that are needed.

Kind donations of tissues and paper towel/baby wipes would also be greatly appreciated.

Parent Helpers

We would love to have parent assistance in the classroom to help starting in Term 1, week 7. This will give me the next few weeks to get the children into some good routines and give them the opportunity to become settled and independent workers before parents are introduced into the room.

In order to help in class, you must attend a compulsory parent induction which is being held on 2nd March 2018 at 2pm in the school library.

I would also love as many of you (if possible) to help cover and label the kids' book. If you are able to help with this, please come and see me.

Child Protection

The Child Protection Program, which is a mandatory part of our student Welfare Policy, ensures that all children are involved in lessons appropriate to their age. The theme of the program is the need for children to develop skills and understandings which will enable them to recognise and respond to unsafe situations. This program will be taught from term 2.

You Can Do It

The whole school is participating in a social and emotional program "You can do it" (YCDI). The 5 key foundations are confidence, persistence, organisation, getting along and resilience. 1J will participate in weekly lessons and collect ‘can dos' which help them to achieve their Bronze, Silver and Gold certificates.

Lunch Orders

Can be dropped to Linda in the canteen before school or alternatively be ordered online at

Lost Property

Please LABEL EVERYTHING with your child's name and class. If ALL of their belongings are clearly labelled they usually find a way back to your child. There is a whole school lost property box outside the staff room.

Parent Appointments

I am happy to discuss any concerns or questions you may have. Appointments can be made for longer conversations and I'm happy to receive emails or phone calls also. My email is or ph: 43691544. If I have any concerns either with your child's learning or behaviour, I will let you know. So if you don't hear anything you'll know everything is fine.

Notes & money

I will collect class notes every morning in the classroom on arrival. Money amounts over $10 need to be handed in directly at the office.

Birthday Cakes/Treats

No nuts please and cupcakes preferred as we can't cut up large cakes.

Outdoor Learning

We have a lovely outdoor learning areas right next to our classroom and unfortunately the mossies enjoy this area too. I will be mindful of this and if needed I can use roll on repellent on the children. If mossies or repellent is a major concern for your child please discuss this with me. Those children sensitive to bites should wear or bring roll on repellent in their bags each day.

Every child will participate in News Groups  on an assigned day M-F. The purpose of news is for the children to develop their talking and listening skills. Please discuss with your child some ideas of what they can talk about for news the night before. Your child may like to bring something in from home to show the class, or they may just wish to talk about something of interest.

We are looking forward to a productive and fun year in 1J, with a wonderful group of children.
