1H Class Information 2018

K-2 Assembly is 11:30am, every second Friday (even weeks) in the hall. We are not having class items this term to allow time for kinder to settle in to the new routine. When we introduce class items in later terms, an invitation/email will be sent home to notify you of the performance time.

1H's Library day is Tuesday afternoons with Mrs. Judd. Please supply your own library bag or utilize the one provided with the book pack, to enable your child to borrow books on a weekly basis.

Mrs Judd would also appreciate any help with covering books. If you are interested please see Mrs Judd in the library.

Stage 1 Sport/Fitness is on Thursday after lunch (11.30-1.00) and children need to wear their sports shoes every Thursday(uniform remains the same throughout the week). This term the children will participate in basic gross motor skills, dance, movement activities and fitness games.

The students will participate in art/craft activities most days as part of our literacy rotations. Students may bring in an old large adult size t-shirt to be used as an art shirt for painting if you choose.

Home reading should have commenced, with the children reading the books they are also reading in class, this way they can revise and consolidate at home. Books must be returned the following day.

Mathletics will start in the next few weeks. The Mathletics tasks set will be what we are focusing on in class with the aim of consolidation. If you have a student who ‘loves' Mathletics, please let me know and I will unlock their access to the whole site, so daily tasks don't restrict their access. My aim is not to stress you as parents, so see me if you have any concerns.

As many students in the class are already independent readers, they will be exposed to a range of texts throughout the year. Sometimes their ‘reader' may be a book review, poem or information text. At this stage, we are supporting comprehension, so your child can always be encouraged by asking what the purpose of the text is and their opinion of it.

Fruit Break

Please pack fresh fruit or veg daily for our mid morning break.

We will provide the children with all their stationery here at school. An invoice has been sent out for a $70 book pack, which includes a Mathletics subscription, which will cover all other supplies that are needed.

Kind donations of  paper towel/baby wipes and hand sanitizer would always be greatly appreciated.

Parent Helpers

I will be using Term 1 to get the children into some good routines and give them the opportunity to become settled and independent workers before parents are introduced into the room.

If you wish to help in class later in the year, you must attend a compulsory parent induction (time and date to be advised)

Child Protection

The Child Protection Program, which is a mandatory part of our student Welfare Policy, ensures that all children are involved in lessons appropriate to their age. The theme of the program is the need for children to develop skills and understandings which will enable them to recognise and respond to unsafe situations. If you have any queries or concerns about the program please don't hesitate to contact me.

You Can Do It

The whole school is participating in a social and emotional program "You Can Do It" (YCDI). The 5 key foundations are confidence, persistence, organisation, getting along and resilience. All students will participate in weekly lessons on the ‘5 Keys to Success' and 12 ‘Habits of the Mind'

Lunch Orders

Can be dropped to Linda in the canteen before school or alternatively be ordered online at

I highly recommend looking at our new healthy menu, the meals look delicious!

Lost Property

Please LABEL EVERYTHING with your child's name and class. If ALL of their belongings are clearly labelled they usually find a way back to your child. There is a whole school lost property box outside the staff room.

Parent Appointments

I am always happy to make a time to discuss any concerns or questions you may have about your child. Appointments can be made by emailing me at or ph: 43691544. If I have any concerns either with your child's learning or behaviour, I will let you know. So if you don't hear anything you'll know everything is fine.

Notes & money

I will collect class notes every morning in the classroom on arrival. Money amounts over $10 need to be handed in directly at the office.

Birthday Cakes/Treats

No nuts please and cupcakes preferred as we can't cut up large cakes.

Outdoor Learning

We have a lovely outdoor learning areas right next to our classroom and unfortunately the mossies enjoy this area too. Those children sensitive to bites should wear or bring roll on repellent in their bags each day.

Every child will participate in News Groups each Friday. The purpose of news is for the children to develop their talking and listening skills. Please discuss with your child some ideas of what they can talk about for news the night before. Your child may like to bring something in from home to show the class, or they may just wish to talk about something.

1H Class Parents & social networking

Please come and see me if you are interested in being a 1H parent representative you may even be interested in sharing this role with another parent. Sharing email address would enable 1C parents to get to know each other a little better and enable catch ups outside of school. If you are willing to be on a class contact list or be a class parent representative, please speak to me or email me to let me know.

I am excited to introduce the SEESAW app into the classroom this year. I have attached a note with information on its use and access, but feel free to ask me if you have any questions or concerns. All communication on the app other than between parent, student and teacher will be disabled, so it will be a private sharing of your child's work with yourself on your phone.

I am looking forward to a great year of fun and learning in 1H.

Kind regards

Jodie Holloman
