1S class information 2018

Welcome to all parents/caregivers to the new school year. I am very excited to be teaching your children and look forward to working with you to deliver the best for your child. This is some information about our class that you will need to know.

1S will have library on a Tuesday afternoon. Please remember to send a library bag and return borrowed books.

K-2 Assembly is 11:30am Fridays on even weeks of the term in the hall. When 1S is running the assembly later in the year, you will be invited to attend.

Class sport is on Thursday and children need to wear appropriate footwear and clothing. This term the children will participate in basic gross motor skills and fitness games.

This year, KPS have implemented a whole school music program where all students will have one music lesson in class every week.  Having the opportunity to learn and perform music promotes self-expression, gives children a sense of accomplishment, develops listening skills and connects the same neural pathways in the brain that are used for maths and language. Mrs Bullock will be taking this class before library on Tuesday afternoons.

At KPS, home reading is highly encouraged to consolidate the work we are doing in class. Books must be in satchels and returned the following day.
Mathletics will start in week 6. The Mathletics tasks set will be based on topics covered in class and should be appropriate to their abilities. If there are any problems relating to this, please come and discuss it with to arrange a solution.

Fruit Break
Students will have a mid-morning break to eat fruit/vegetables each day. Please pack fresh fruit or vegetables daily.

Book packs are $70 and will supply your child everything they need for class – stationary, books, Mathletics login, library bag and satchel. It would be greatly appreciated if these can be purchased as soon as possible. Donations of tissues are always appreciated.

Parent Helpers
We would love to have parent assistance in the classroom to help starting in Term 1, week 7. This will give me the next few weeks to get the children into some good routines and give them the opportunity to become settled and independent workers before parents are introduced into the room. To help in class, you must attend a compulsory parent induction which is being held on 2nd March 2018 at 2pm in the school library.
I will also require help to cover and label the students' books. If you are able to help with this, please let me know as soon as possible.

Child Protection
Child protection education aims to assist students to develop skills in:
• recognising and responding to unsafe situations
• seeking assistance effectively
• establishing and maintaining non-coercive relationships and strengthening attitudes and values related to equality, respect and responsibility.
This program will be taught from term 2. If you have any questions about the nature of these lessons, feel free to come and discuss this with me.

You Can Do It
The whole school is participating in a social and emotional program "You can do it" (YCDI). The 5 key foundations are confidence, persistence, organisation, getting along and resilience. 1S will participate in weekly lessons and collect ‘can dos' which help them to achieve their Bronze, Silver and Gold certificates.

Lunch Orders
Lunch orders can be dropped to Linda in the canteen before school or alternatively be ordered online at:

Please LABEL EVERYTHING with your child's name and class. If ALL of their belongings are clearly labelled they usually find a way back to your child. There is a whole school lost property box outside the staff room. Please encourage students not to bring toys to school as they often become problematic and we have a lot of things for the children to play with here at school.

Notes & money
I will collect class notes every morning in the classroom on arrival. Money amounts over $10 need to be handed in directly at the office.

If your child wants to share their birthday celebrations with their classmates, please ensure cakes have no nuts in them and are easy to share – cupcakes are much easier!

If you need an appointment for any reason then please contact me by email or on the school phone number. I will always return emails or calls as soon as possible.
